How it all began
The Humble, Humble Beginnings...

This project began as a silly one time project where I told myself "I think my friend would really look cool in this.", and so, I knitted an entire cardigan for her simply because of that. When I presented the final product to her, she was elated to be able to wear something hand-made, something made by her friend, and something that I would like to at least believe, looked decent. And all for free, too!
Becoming Something More Than humble
The first ever knit gang project (which I didn't know I was going to knit more clothes back then!) became such a beloved piece of craftwork in my heart, I decided to request my friend to wear it and do a mini photoshoot with it.It was a bit clumsy setting it up - the only wall that looked decent and easily accessible for a blank background photoshoot happened to be in my cramped-as-hell bedroom in my apartment. I barely had any space to work with; my bed was so close to that one wall, I had to make sure none of the shots captured my bed when I used my DSLR camera to take the pictures. Not only that, but that gave not so much freedom in terms of actions for my friend in the pictures unfortunately.Somehow, despite all that, the photos turned out okay! It may be amateur photography shots, but I was so, so incredibly proud that day when I reviewed the pictures.I think it was then that I decided to try and make more garments for my friends, purely for the love of the game.
For the Love of the Game
I began knitting more garments, becoming more willing to experiment or trying out more complex ideas I wouldn't have attempted to otherwise. I was so willing to make my visions of these garments a reality, I would do research on certain skills in knitting and sewing up garments to hone my craft and ensure my garments looked as clean as they could be.Although I didn't have much time to constantly focus on it, it was a project I would keep coming back to again and again, either for inserting more ideas or just dropping media links to watch and learn from later on. This project unofficially began around middle of 2023, and it continues on even now in the middle of 2025 as I write these words.I would experience these inspirations in bursts, coming from either viewing a piece of clothing or object online or even in person. I would jot them down in sketchbooks, noting specific parts of the object I was very fascinated by and willing to attempt in re-creating them in knitting.Aside from that, inspirations would also come to me when I meet up with my friends and I become inspired simply by the style of outfits they had on for the day.I wanted to make clothing to flatter them well, and even though I couldn't fully understand why I wanted to do so, I just kept working on them when I had the time in the middle of studying in Melbourne. While all of this was happening, I'm sure my friends likely found me working on this project more than peculiar for it, but all of this love for making clothes never truly sprung to me until a friend uttered the words "I think you just really like making these for the love of the game."I think those words truly changed me on how I viewed these series of clothing I had previously made, and what I saw in myself for the future of this project.
The Future of this Project
With those words alone, they made me turn my head to see a perspective of myself I had never seen before. Not only did those words make me accept that I truly loved making all of these, it also renewed my passion on making this project a reality.I originally had no name to this series of projects, I just called it the modelling projects. But around the middle of 2025, the idea came to me randomly for the current name. I named this project in honour of how I managed to randomly gather a regular knitting group in my house for my friends, not only that, but also for the one coined the current name of the knit group as he thought the old name was lame...And so, the project name now came to be known as "The Knit Gang Project", a project where I gather my friends and create clothing for them that intends to compliment them well, and is also somewhat of a testament of my skill as a knitter. The ultimate goal for this project is to gather all of the models (my friends) into a photoshoot and showcase them wearing the clothing I had carefully hand-knitted for them. I want to see them feel happy, confident, and comfortable wearing them, not only that, but to potentially get them to see what other styles they could be wearing for themselves.I know these goals are rather selfish, but I think that is what they are - I do this all for the love of it. I think I began this project because I love giving creations to my friends to try and see them love wearing them. Not only do the satisfaction and joy of seeing them confidently flaunt in the clothing that I designed bring a glittering and sparkling feeling in me, I think I just truly enjoy seeing my friends and other people treasure what I make for them. This is why I create - not for a reason, but just pure passion.
